The ski slope unfolds before you. This is the best location.

From Grand Hirafu ski area to Hakuunso is a five minute walk.
So close, you ski your way back to Hakuunso. You can ski from the morning until the edge of night.
From the southern facing rooms, snow-covered Mt. Yotei can be seen.

Half century in Hirafu, Niseko

An ancestor of the Urano Family immigrated to Hokkaido as an agricultural solider, and settled in Ebetsu near Sapporo.
He later moved to Hirafu and settled in Niseko as a pioneer, engaging in farming.
About half century ago in 1961, “Minshuku (guesthouse) Urano” opened at the same time as the ski resort.

  • 1960s

    In 1961, Niseko Kogen Hirafu ski resort (presently Niseko Mt. Resort Grand Hirafu ) opened as the first ski resort with lifts to the Niseko mountain range. The 40th Japan Ski Championship (Alpine events) was held here, and seven farmers in Niseko were urgently requested to open inns in Hirafu. These inns were used as accommodations for the skiers. The first inn association was organized, and “Minshuku Urano” joined as Auditor. In those days, accommodations started at 500 yen for one night, including two meals.

    Minshuku Urano is expanded and renamed Hakuunso
    1969
    Hakuunso is expanded for the second time, cost for one night is \1000.
  • 1970s

    The Sapporo Olympics are held in 1972, and skiing become highly popular. By 1979, Niseko becomes the largest ski resort in Hokkaido, and expansions and new accommodation facility construction booms. A café and Japanese-style bar open, and tennis courts are constructed in order to attract tourists during the summer in Hirafu, where the surroundings are still untouched. Hakuunnso is registered as a corporation around this time.

    Coffee shop “Wedeln” opens (now closed)
    1978
    Hakuunso is expanded for the third time, from 60 beds to 100
    The first bar in Hirafu, “Kakashi (scarecrow) opens (currently in operation)
    1979
    Three tennis courts are built. Management company “Niseko Toyokanko Company” is established
  • 1980s

    The ski boom reaches its peak in the 1980s. Tourism is promoted with the introduction of one improvement after another, such as the Niseko Express Line by JR Hokkaido and a night-time operating gondola. New Hakuunso is constructed during this time. However, skiing starts to decline in popularity, and the snowboarding age arrives in the 1990s.

  • 2000s

    Starting around 2004, Niseko becomes a skiing destination for Australians. As Hirafu becomes popular with people from East Asia such as Hong Kong and China, condominiums begin to stand side by side in Hirafu. In 2016, Hakuunso was renewed as a new type of inn, becoming a place where people of various nationalities can enjoy interacting together.

Sports fields surrounded by
beautiful nature and facing Mt. Yotei

The soccer field is also used for sport events in the summer, and there is also a futsal field.
In addition, six municipal tennis courts are a three minute walk away.
Hakuunso is the best place to hold a sports camp.
